To Bribe or Not to Bribe?

Bribing our way to clean dinner plates and devoured veggies.
Right or wrong... sometimes? maybe? a little bit?
I know everyones got a different opinion on what works for their family-- what they will and won't do.
I have to admit... bribery works for us! If I need to give my kids a couple M&M's, but in return that means they eat all their dinner or a bowl of brocoli, asparagus, etc-- then it's totally worth it in my book.

We don't do it every night (my boys actually eat most veggies easily- surprisingly), but on the days when I feel like they haven't been good eaters... it's on!! and I'm not ashamed-- maybe just a tiny bit :)
I think there's a time and place for it tho. I mean we're not going to bribe them forever or for everything, just till their 18 :)

My chili was not a fan favorite, but after John pulled out the reinforcement, it was almost all gone.
Our bribe of choice this week - Valentine M&M's

the careful presentation of the M&M... the timing is everything :)

you earned it buddy... get that M&M lil P

I say go for it, you do what you have to do. I find myself bribing or using "positive reinforcement" (ha ha) for things too. My kids eat veggies pretty well too, what a relief! Have a great day!

lol, I'm so glad I'm not alone on the bribery. Sometimes you've gotta do what you gotta do! :)

Whatever works! A few M&Ms won't hurt them, and I think the trade off is worth it.

I love this... if it works, then by all means!! I mean really, its not bribery... just showing there is reward for 'hard work' :) My kids would balk at the idea of one M&M btw!!! :)

Danna I like that.. "positive reinforcement" sounds way better than bribery :) and your right Kate, rewarding hard work is teaching a valuable lesson, I never thought of it like that... and I know we won't be getting away with using little ole m&m's for much longer, especially when Nana shows up with Cupcakes the other night :)

We line up 4 m&m's in front of our kids at restaurants. If they misbehave, they have one taken away....if they have any left over after dinner they can eat them.

We will do this with pennies too...and if they have pennies left, they can turn them in and order dessert! Works like a charm!

Cheers
